Dwelling Fire
Laurel Heights Drive
(Dates on photos are incorrect.)
Dispatched with UDVFC #1
(Station 31) for an alarm
system on Laurel Heights
Drive at 1545. Assistant
Chief Mickey Crackovich
arrived on scene, reported
smoke and flames showing
from the rear. Seabrook Fire
& Rescue (Station 32) and
Upper Deerfield EMS
(Squad 34) were
automatically added to the
alarm with confirmation of a
"working fire". Crews forced
entry, and had the fire
knocked down in just a few
minutes. The residence
sustained heavy fire
damage to the kitchen and
smoke damage throughout.
Crews remained on scene
until around 1720 to Assist
Cumberland County Fire
Marshal 3 with his
investigation. The cause of
the fire was determined to
be a pot left on the stove.
The residents were not
home and no civilian or
firefighter injuries resulted
from the fire. What initially
appeared to be a routine
accidental alarm activation
nearly cost these residents
their home. This is a sterling
example of why it is so
important to have working
smoke detectors.
